In recent years, market globalisation has led to the intensification of trade between various countries.

Wood packaging has sometimes been a channel for introducing and spreading harmful organisms.

It was, therefore, necessary to reduce infestation risks by introducing some phytosanitary measures to avoid possible economic and environmental effects on the world’s forest heritage.

Before shipment, the treatment which constitutes the phytosanitary measure identified by the IPPC is the basis for the International Standard ISPM-15. In short, this Standard provides that raw wood packaging must be treated (heat process) and, subsequently, certified with the IPPC/FAO mark. This mark must be checked through a certification system of companies in the wood packaging and processing chain.
