What is it?
Woodchip is a biomass fuel used for natural and/or industrial processes. It is obtained by chipping wood into tiny flakes.His name comes precisely from this process.
As the chipper produces it from waste pallets and twigs, it is a very inexpensive material compared to traditional fuels such as methane gas, LPG or diesel, usually used for domestic heating.
How
Wood chipping is a mechanical process applied to wood waste. It is used to turn it into woodchips, the biofuel we have mentioned previously. The piece of equipment used for cutting is called a ‘chipper’.
Usually, chipping takes place directly in the woods or sawmills. Some companies are now getting chippers to carry out these operations on-site and use their timber. By doing so, they avoid the excessive consumption of wood that leads to deforestation.
Why
Woodchipscan be used as fuel. Therefore, woodchips furnaces are an excellent alternative to traditional heating. However, they need a specific type of woodchips that should be less than 3 cm in size to work. In addition, woodchips have a percentage of internal humidity able to guarantee optimal combustion. When the quality of the wood, the raw material, is high, its function will be even more efficient.
